Do not reapply blindly
A personal-loan rejection after an EMI bounce does not prove the bounce was the only reason. Lenders may consider overdue status, credit history, existing obligations, income, employer profile, documentation, internal policy and other risk factors.
Step 1: Ask what you can clarify
Request the reason or broad factors for the decision through the lender's official channel. A lender may not disclose every internal scoring detail, but you can still ask whether a document was missing, the existing loan shows overdue, or the application did not meet a stated criterion.
Step 2: Check the existing loan
Confirm whether the bounced EMI was paid and whether any balance or charge remains. Save the payment receipt and account statement. If the debit failure was technical, retain the bank's written response.
Step 3: Review your credit report
Check the personal-loan account status, overdue amount, payment history and recent enquiries. If an entry is inaccurate, dispute it with the lender and credit bureau. Accurate negative history should not be disputed merely to remove it.
Step 4: Improve the application before trying again
- Ensure all current instalments are paid on time.
- Avoid unnecessary credit applications.
- Reduce outstanding debt where feasible without exhausting emergency savings.
- Provide consistent salary credits, bank statements and employment documents.
- Calculate the new EMI against essential spending.
- Compare offers by APR and total repayment, not headline interest alone.
There is no universal number of days or months that guarantees approval after rejection. Reapply when the reason is understood and your situation has materially improved, not simply because time has passed.
FAQs
Can I apply with another lender tomorrow?
You can enquire, but multiple formal applications may create additional enquiries and will not resolve an unpaid EMI or affordability problem.
Does a rejection lower my CIBIL score by a fixed amount?
There is no fixed universal deduction. A lender's enquiry may appear in your report; the score impact depends on the wider file and scoring model.
What if the rejection reason seems wrong?
Ask for clarification and correct factual errors in your documents or credit report. Keep written records.
